Democracy is a Verb with Jack Marco
Our month-long celebration of philanthropy continues. On Friday, February 5, our next spotlight will be on the Mikva Challenge whose motto is “democracy is a verb.” The Mikva Challenge empowers students by engaging them in the political process and provides a curriculum in Action Civics to educators.
My next guest on the podcast is Jack Marco. Jack officially retired from Marco Consulting as chairman of the board after the 2017 merger with Segal Rogerscasey, but he remains in an advisory role. The newly merged entity, Segal-Marco Advisors, manages over $500 billion in assets.
Many of my listeners may be familiar with Jack’s distinguished career, but some of you may not know about his philanthropic interests. Jack was a board member of American Rights at Work, now called Jobs with Justice. American Rights at Work was an advocacy organization dedicated to advancing workers’ rights and educating the public about barriers workers face when organizing or engaging in collective bargaining. Currently, Jack sits on the board of the Mikva Challenge.
Meet Congressman, Judge, and White House Counsel – Abner Mikva
According to Wikipedia, Abner Mikva was a politician, judge, lawyer, and law professor. He represented Illinois’ 2nd and 10th congressional districts in the US House of Representatives. Former President Carter appointed him as a judge to the US Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia. He was White House counsel under President Bill Clinton. He’s one of the few politicians to ever serve in all three branches of government. Abner Mikva was a mentor and an inspiration to former President Barack Obama, sitting Supreme Court Justice Elena Kagan, and my next guest, Jack Marco.
