A Month of Philanthropy and Our Third Season Premiere

Welcome to The World of Multiemployer Benefit Funds Podcast with union and client advocate, Traci Dority-Shanklin. This month, we take a break from the news cycle to focus on “philanthropy”.

Brian Rathjen, president of Roberts & Ryan, is the first guest of our third season. Roberts & Ryan is a service-disabled, veteran-owned broker-dealer. As a result, we thought Brian was the perfect guest to help us kick off our month-long theme of philanthropy along and our third season.

On Friday, January 22, 2021, Brian joins Traci on the podcast. He discusses his philanthropic passions from helping veterans to empowering economically challenged youth. As a Blue and Gold Officer with the Naval Academy Alumni Association, Brian aids inner-city youth with admissions to the Naval Academy.

Brian received a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the United States Naval Academy. As a lieutenant on board the USS Ouellet, he received the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement for Meritorious Service. Brian also serves on the board of directors for Boulder Crest Retreat, an organization dedicated to helping combat veterans and their families deal with the effects of PTSD.

In this clip from Doing Well by Doing Good, Brian talks about his naval experience onboard a Knox-class frigate in Pearl Harbor:
